I recently listened to a great podcast episode on creativity (thank you Tina Muir!) . The podcast guest was Chase Jarvis , and a point that he made found me in total agreement . How often did you say ‘I wish I could do xyZ but I don’t have time’ ? What if you say instead ‘I am not putting xyZ as my priority right now’?
I have always been an advocate of the ‘everything is possible if you want to do it’. Not saying it will be easy, but possible! Yes , because if you really want something you will put all of your energy and effort into it, you will not mind about having sleepless night , about being physically tired - you are working towards your dreams.

Going out and about these days there is a feeling of ‘end of the world’
Everyone is living as if there is no tomorrow A reaction to be slightly freer ? A fear of being locked again soon ? Definitely the chorus of the famous REM song comes to mind ‘it’s the end of the world as we know it’ they sang. After a month at sea (well mostly tied to a dock) is time to head back home
Where things have been slowly setting back to normality and well.. where the Biennale is back after a year delay! Since architecture (and art) can be conveyors of some very sustainable messages and be promoters of change, i am really curios about the train of thoughts that this biennale will inspire into its visitors and what will it bring in terms of its legacy. Sailing.
Some may say that is something for the rich and snob, but really: this is not the case. Yes, maybe it requires some investments and, as I am learning the jobs never quite finish. In fact, just walk around a boatyard or marina and you will barely see anyone relaxing before sunset. Some maybe playing with sails, engines, cleaning the deck, building some constructions for solar panels or fighting with some new water filters. And conversations will follow suit. There will be no politic chat (okay, maybe a bit of Brexit, but more related to problem solving, transit logs, biometric cards) and little, minimal, chit chat. It will be mostly technical talks of the daily achievements, failures or simply misfortunes. There will be advice, cheering ups or simply sympathising. So, in the last month, beyond having learnt quite a fair bit on electric circuits and engines and becoming very acquainted with every single bit of pipe or cable that passes in my boat underbelly, I have also made some friends and learnt that I really really like boat people and this kind of life. |
