I have recently became very passionate with historical ecology . If history is something I always shied away from (thank you high school) I have always liked stories. And well , history can also be told through stories . And for someone who loves nature and also likes a good story there is nothing better than going digging through old manuscripts, books and even some newspaper articles (yes , even newspapers were of better quality 100 years ago )

Did you know that governments often open public consultation during a legislative iter?
I did, but somehow I often come very late to the party and realise right on the deadline, or just the day after... If you didn’t even know this was a thing, or always come late to it - don’t worry. It’s not you. It’s just that it’s not advertised at all! Algorithm. Everytime I hear this word I can’t help but thinking about the Willie Peyote song - which, while actually being mostly about love, makes many parallels with modern day technology.. and it's quite funny and relatable
this is one of my favourite parts of the song (English below) Io le mie emozioni le ho criptate Le ho nascoste tipo in codice, le hai decifrate La mia chiave era segreta ma tu sei un hacker […] Convinti che per essere sicuri serva costruire Muri e barricare le emozioni in una cassaforte E solo una combinazione coi tuoi numeri puoi andare oltre Hai il passepartout per queste porte […] Tu ti muovi così bene, dimmi come fai Ad entrare senza password e a sgamarmi i file L'algoritmo ha il tuo ritmo (I have encrypted my emotions, I have kind of hidden them in code, but you deciphered them my key was secret but you are an hacker […] Convinced that to be safe you need to build walls and barricate emotions in a safe And that only a combination with your numbers can get you further You have the master key for these doors […] You move so well, tell me how you do it To enter without password and to find my files The algorithm has you rhythm) As you reading this I am probably moored in a nice bay enjoying a swim, observing the fish and underwater world, and asking myself whether they have realised anything that it's going on above the surface...
Net zero . We hear this word being thrown here and there very often these days and I bet that even if you are not in the eco chamber bubble that I find myself in you would have heard of it.
Now. Net zero means the achievement of carbon neutrality , and the goal is to reach that point by 2050. 29 years away. Seems a lot but actually for such a big transition is going to pass in a flash and most likely we will find ourself in 2049 (that is if we, as humanity, are still here then) having achieved very little of this target . At the moment it is mostly up to governments to ensure steps are taken, drafting legislative plans (which are most likely going to take forever to draft because inevitably real carbon neutrality goes against the immediate best interest of the big industries which are the ones with the money and the ones that will bargain their votes..) , and then figure out how to enforce them .. and it will take forever because there will be those invoking ‘democracy’ and ‘freedom’ (what is there more democratic and free that caring after the future I really don’t know) , those who say is not enough , and those who are of a self sabotaging nature and only looking a few cm from their noses and protect their now interest. . |
