It’s time for an integrated coastal management that brings farmers back to the top of the list9/25/2021 As i am writing this post, I just finished the first transplantation of 2000 European Oysters in the Venice lagoon, where were once highly abundant and were then depleted to the point of a complete stock collapse. Now, if you have been to Venice, you have probably seen oysters attached to the seawalls, but they are Crassostrea spp. (Japanese and Portuguese oysters imported to Europe by accident and now commonly farmed) , but bringing back Ostrea edulis, is not only important for biodiversity and to ameliorate some areas of the seabed, but can potentially bring higher revenues.

As you remember I was recently at the ONA short film festival. One of my favourite movies was shot in the salt ponds in Peru and follow this older woman memories and her stories.
The strong traditions and culture these people have is something that I believe we have long lost in our fast paced societies. It feels as if they really cared about what they did, and had a strong sense of community . More often than not , in our western society , we do not care about our jobs and we do things ‘just to do them’ and put the ‘hours on the timesheet’. Now. I hope to never be in that category of people , but you never know when inspiration will stop striking .. Today I’d like to revisit a post written last year after the first edition of the Ona short film festival. A year has passed and the second edition of the festival arrived , bigger , renewed and full of engaging activities! Inspiration for restoration has built on optimism that humans can reverse past management failures and turn ecological losses into gains that provide hope for a sustainable future. Ecological restoration can secure local access to the ecosystem goods and services on which economies depend whilst fostering collaboration, community bonding, and human well-being. However, restoration is often undervalued by society and science. It is criticized for being too small and expensive to be effective, operating at scales mismatched to the scale of damage (McAfee et al. 2021)
