Right, is Christmas day - so while I know that not everybody will be celebrating today, chances are that many of you are.. and chances are that many of you are a bit bored of all the eating and drinking.. or maybe, you are alone at home for whatever reason, Don't worry, the collection coming up is yes Christmas themed, but hopefully also educational.. Yes, thinking is allowed, also today ;)

Oysters on the table and shells in your glass : alternative drinks to try this holiday season12/18/2021 The winter holidays are fast approaching and well, if they haven’t already it’s likely that parties are taking over your life.. Yeap most likely eating and drinking are going to take centre stage…
It may come as no surprise that oysters also make it to the christmas dinner table, especially in france where more than 100,000 tonnes of oysters served each year, a large portion of which makes it to the Christmas dinner table. And oysters are quite a ‘sustainable’ food, like other bivalves, requiring no input feeding and providing some ecosystem services like nutrient cycling alongside the provision of protein, This paper estimates that if 10% of the protein from beef consumption in the United States was replaced with protein from oysters, the GHG savings would be equivalent to 10.8 million fewer cars on the road... Today I want to bring back the topic of work. A while ago I wrote about how I believed our current lifestyles and work culture were the enemy of sustainability. Then , of course, things changed massively when the pandemic hit. At least , in terms of where we worked .
Language . There is often a lot hidden behind a word, and having a good and diverse vocabulary gives the interlocutors a much stronger power of expression. It helps to add nuances , it makes the difference between fun, sarcasm and plain cheekiness, it may give an idea of one’s social and cultural background , origins … sometimes just one word can be enough to 'make it or break it'.
Languages are in constant evolution, yet they also follow strict rules of grammar (yes, I know, I am probably butchering the proper english one here in this blog), which is also in constant evolution. It is a constant, yet slow, evolution . |
