In the last few weeks I have maybe painted a dark grey picture of the world, with not so glossy climate scenarios. Add in the news of climate tipping points and it can be easy to think that the only thing left to do is to turn off the alarm in the morning and enjoy the warm bed because ‘does it really matter anymore’? So I decided to look at the positives today. Blame the Christmas atmosphere and the crispy fresh air that moves some happy warmth inside me if you like ... so take this as my early Christmas present to you all, to calm some of that eco anxiety that might be (knowingly or not) loom at the back of your heads... Here are some recent ‘things’ (for lack of a better word, they are not events nor proper phenomena..) that make my eco positivity list :
active involvement of new generations into the environmental field. It all started from Greta Thunberg, but it spread out like fever, with movements like Friday for future spreading worldwide actions and ‘climate strikes’. Perhaps because they are the ones more directly involved and more likely to be affected, but they are doing a great job. Hopefully their voices will be heard, but I would like to focus on the fact that the ‘stereotypically apatic’ teenagers are actually moved by something big and are fighting for a change. We, still-young-but-playing-adults should definitely learn.. single use is starting to go out of fashion, replaced by reusable objects being increasingly used. Okay, some might be viewed as a bit of ‘greenwashing’ (I mean, did we really need all of these bamboo containers? Can we not just reuse glass jars - which, by the way, are amazing solutions?) but I still think if we focus on the positives - this is a great step forward plastic is slowly being viewed as an enemy. Yes, there still is a lot of plastic out there, and yes, bioplastics might not be all that they promise to be, but the shift of perspective is a really great starting point. And the idea of a plastic tax seems like a really great way to deter more production of it people are getting really creative with some wonderful solutions to all sort of climate related issues. Listen to people fixing the world, a podcast from the bbc that features some creative solutions to many world problems, from carbon offsetting to changing transportation of goods, via food waste , It's a great listen and you’ll understand just what I mean...

I love this so much! It's definitely easy to focus on the negatives, but how exciting that we are actually making positive changes -- the stigma associated with thrifting is fading away, because of consumer demand, companies are seeking alternatives to plastic 🙌 We have so much power to make change 💚 thank you for sharing!

Great post! Although it is time to take tough action, I'm an eternal optimist and I want to believe that we can change things around.

Thanks so much for your eco positivity list! From time to time I really do feel kind of depressed and thinking of the future leaves me a bit scared. Then it's always good to remind yourself that there are positive initiatives and so many people engaging for a better future.

This is a good compilation. We need more positively, even if little and also needs to be appreciated and shared.
