And so it goes... Christmas has passed and life is getting back to being stringent, a new wave is here and am losing count. Actually. For the sake of staying sane I am sort of avoiding the news. By now we know what we should and shouldn’t do. And while I am of solitary tendencies, a bit of a lone wolf, I am also like everyone else a bit fed up. Plus you seem to be wanting things more when you can’t have them, so those mountains on the horizons are calling more and more and so is the urge to see far away friends or meeting that new person, that lives just over there, on the other side of ... the municipality border! So, instead of thinking about negative thoughts, let’s think about really how to make the most of this time. Yes, we already have some experience of lockdown , already adjusted our routines to working from home and already found out that all those clothes in our wardrobe are useless, because, really, all I ever want to wear is comfy soft trousers and a warm soft jumper. We can use this time to really kickstart and renew our sustainable journey. Sustainability in terms of zero waste is becoming harder and harder. The single use from the take aways is making a huge come back, and even a new appearance, in a country where coffee is staple and we now must ‘take away only’. We must voice our concerns. Not only pleading the barista to at least not give you a lid (seriously, a plastic lid on a paper cup for an espresso that will disappear within a few second...), but voicing it out en mass. Everywhere, and especially on social media. In the era of the digital, we really have a power if we use it collectively. Have they really not realised that in order to ‘save the economy’ while attempting to ‘protect us’ they are endangering the environment ? So that events like this will be more and more common. Are they really that blind ? I really want to support my local baristas with my daily cappuccino, but just seeing those cups makes me say no. So I decided instead to invest in a milk frother, at least that’s going to be more sustainable long term. Same with food: the takeaways will come with a lot of extra rubbish. I saw it in Greece, where in 3 days I consumed so much plastic and I had really no other choice. But what if you are missing that really nice restaurant meal? Why not learn to cook ? For real ? Home cooking can be delicious, healthy and very sustainable if you choose a recipe calling for seasonal ingredients. And you often don’t need a lot of them to make a good meal - what better than Italian cuisine for a simple yet delicious recipe ? And since we have a lot more time than a 20 min at most carved out in between finishing at the gym and catching up the latest movie at the cinema(What are those?) - it can even be a mindful and thoughtful process - and it can be restaurant style ! Just follow a class . And let me give you a suggestion : Here is a nice place to start: Gabriele cooks from the heart of Tuscany, you can try this recipe of Gnocchi with cheese and roasted walnuts and stay tuned on my social medias for more of their recipes! Not only it will save the takeaway but will give you some tool to impress your friends / that new girl/guy when you can see them again. Talking about putting this time to good use instead of waste.. We can also use it to learn about the deeper issues with our society And while I am an advocate for podcasts (great for when you are multitasking) why not take the time to stop and read? Let me start you with some titles Here you can find 12 titles on sustainability Or this list which will have something for all And here 31 books all about upcycling (just in case you are looking for your next project!) Let's keep strong, keep busy and keep improving

Love this post! I totally agree that we should take this time to be more eco-conscious.

This thought has run through my mind many times as well - there is truly no better time to work on sustainability in your life than being on lockdown. I love your sentiment on "make the most of this time"

I hope the US shuts down so that folks could focus on something like greening up their home and their habits. That gnocchi recipe sounds good!

I recently invested in a milk frother to make barista-quality coffee at home and it's such a game-changer! Small changes like this leave a huge impact if you think about it. We'll save hundreds of coffee cups from ending up in the environment. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
