This week extinction rebellion is having back to back protests in Rome. I follow some of them and am friends with some of the XR activists . I have to say I am really impressed with the imagination behind the protests , with the way they are spreading the message. Always peaceful. Always impactful . This said. I don’t know why but I don’t see myself being out there in the square. I am in 100% with their ideas and the message. I just don’t see myself as that kind of activist. And I figured , I may not be the only one.. So here it is a little post trying to look at the different faces that activism can take.
See, I think somehow if you believe in something and are doing something towards achieving that something , you are taking action , and so are an activist . If you can engage others , then better for it . Maybe just saying out loud to the cashier that no you don’t need a bag because plastic is bad and you bring reusables. If you can go and help XR groups , and feel akin to their ideals and feel comfortable, go. Otherwise don’t feel bad and don’t despair. There is a kind of activism for all. What kind of activist do you see yourself most represented by ? Did I miss a category? Let me know in the comments !

I identify with the everyday life activist. I think leading by example (especially with my children) is my best approach!

Beautifully written. I think the word activist seemed so intimidating to me at first, like how could me an introvert, be considered an activist. But once I started reading the articles and books about the state of the planet, I couldn't not do something, and activism didn't seem too extreme. I was welcomed with open arms and ive loved the community I've found this way.
