I'm Camilla - a Marine Biologist, outdoors enthusiast, environmentalist, healthy eater, yogi and keen surfer. The "holistic fish" is a mix of all my passions, I believe in taking the 'holistic' approach to ethical lifestyle - which incorporate personal health (healthy body and healthy mind), community health (let's look after each other!) and, of course, environmental health! So with my blog I am aim to provide solutions instead of problems, and aim to make these easy to follow no matter where you are on your zero waste journey, maybe you just started or you are veteran, hopefully you will find some inspiration!
A little bit more about me:
I have always loved the water since a young age (born in April and in the water in June, have been told..), spend most of my summers sailing, and always being fascinated by the underwater world, I used to keep an illustrated diary of all of my snorkelling adventures when I was only 6 years old! This is how the little marine biologist grew...I did, in fact, end up doing my undergraduate degree in Marine Biology and Coastal Ecology, and after my degree I worked (volunteered) a few years as a lab and field research assistant looking at effects of climate change. I finished my PhD looking at habitat created by biogenic reef species such as mussels, and I am now working to improve cultivation of mussels in relation to their environmental conditions, making it even more sustainable :) I am interested in all those animals living on the seabed, and how can they contribute to maintain a healthy planet and what can we do to ensure they don't disappear!
When I am not in the field or in university writing up I can be found looking for waves to surf or for places to swim, or taking a mindful nature walk.
Working in my field, travelling to places and being in the marine environment made me realise how much we already destroyed our environment, how much we need to do to protect it and more than ever how much it is important to share knowledge. So hoping this blog can become a two way process and I am hoping to share my knowledge but also learn from all of you!
