So much for keeping up with the writing every two weeks, uh Well, things have been a little bit hectic this month; Two papers back from reviews, some lectures, some marshy fieldwork to plan, some oysters to look after, some papers to review ... Then I read something thought provoking : that in this time of acute climate crisis, when it's time to really act, scientists are hiding in labs or sitting behind the computer writing papers...
Guilty. Yes I also gave a couple of lecture, and planning some actual restoration work. But is that enough? Whether it is or not, I think it's true that we are spending too much time writing papers about our science, science that may even be useful in this time of crisis (even if indirectly, any new discovery about how the natural world functions is important to protect it, knowledge is the first step), but not many will read. And more and more articles are coming out, cluttering the space and making it less and less likely that they will be picked up by the public... As you know I am also a little bit against the way journalists pick up the research, so what am I suggesting is that from now on I will use some of my posts to summarise some of the new research that may be useful to move forward. My little way of being an activist, after all you can do it in many ways, and you can start with little steps ...
